The official photographer for the Monterey Jazz Festival, was impressed by
the emotional highlights of famous artists expressing their love of working with young musicians - future Jazz Stars. The 33rd Annual Monterey Jazz Festival High School Jazz Competition opened on April 4, 2003, with a salute to the Festival's jazz education program participants. Many musicians expressed their admiration for the Festival's unique programs, with professional musicians working hands-on with the students. The Salute to Jazz Education was followed by a concert, showcasing young talent with student musicians performing as a part of the Festival. The event closed with a stunning performance by the Benny Green/Russell Malone Duo.
Throughout the weekend, student musicians were invited to participate in two very special audition opportunities. Two performance/clinics: Benny Green and Russell Malone provided fans with insights on their careers and views of jazz, while vocalist Kitty Margolis presented a vocal performance/clinic.
