Always a talented artist, in 1990 Henry Benson
started applying his creativity in photography field.
Since then he has been photographing artists, Jazz
and Blues musicians in USA, Europe and Latin
America and has a huge library of images. His
versatile talents are featured on Central Coast
Magazine on-line: http://centralcoastmagazine.com.
When asked by reporters to define jazz for them,
Louis Armstrong would always oblige. One of his
sharp answers is my favorite "Brother, if you have
to ask then you'll never know." And another retort
is "Don't worry, you'll know it when you hear it".
Music is worth seeing, especially trough Benson's
eyes. He is transforming the intriguing Jazz elements
in a visual dialog. Musicians influenced his approach
to capturing the music and its feel. Benson bills himself
as both a Jazz and Blues Photographer, and each
definitions makes sense. But his expressive
photography style earned also his fame and friendship
among Musicians and Artists. Benson slowly earned
his own fans audience, one music event at a time. The
photographer is sure that music is never a monolog
and his dialogs-portraits always breath with passion.
Henry Benson has had many years work as a Production
Artist, Graphic Designer & Fine Art Photographer for a
variety of major Art Galleries in Bay Area, for Museums
in Holland, as well as for National and International
business clients.
The present digital photoexhibition portraits the musicians
that performed at 45th Monterey Jazz Festival -
the longest running jazz festival in the world -
have been presented on September 20-22, 2002.
Renowned musicians as well as up-and-coming artists performed jazz on six
different stages, providing non-stop music during the three-day event. Saturday
afternoon is devoted to blues each year. In addition, MJF offered film in the
Jazz Theater, panel discussions, jazz photography and art, and acres of
merchandise - all in the beautiful oak forest of the Monterey Fairgrounds.
