As a self-taught artist, Dianne Pollock developed a cartoon strip in 1985. Revolving around the day-to-day events of a single parent, the strip was published in newspapers in Vancouver, Canada and several publications focusing on parenting. She illustrated a book called Love Smarts by Kathy Tait, a Vancouver, BC journalist. These cartoons were the genesis for a current Mother and Child series of watercolor paintings.
However, Dianne's love of jazz has motivated her to develop an expanding group of watercolor paintings of whimsical jazz musicians. These images are inspired by the enormous talents and sheer pleasure of the many musicians she has been privileged to hear. This love affair began when volunteering as an usher at the old Georgia Auditorium in Vancouver, Canada, guaranteed free access to shows. Ella performed here and that was the beginning of a life long passion for jazz.
The watercolor images of jazz musicians were originally hand-painted on clothing and sold in boutiques. This year, some of the images have been put on to table linen under the label "Jazzy Linen". The limited edition paintings and linen have been exhibited locally in galleries and the Canadian Craft and Design Museum.
