To me jazz is all about attitude. Jazz can be found in your walk or in the writing of Don Delillo or Jack Kerouac. If you can hear music in the snip snip of you barber’s scissors, you also know that jazz comes from many peculiar sources. How is it that Toots Thielmans’ harmonica and Jimmy Smith’ s B-3 Organ can swing? Or that Eric Dolphy spoke so beautifully from a woody bass clarinet? Attitude. Guitarist Thomas Tedesco shares his compositions and front line with Garnett Brown’s trombone. While not unique in jazz, the hollow body guitar and bone make an attractive muted pastel presence. Tedesco with his cool bop lines and Brown a veteran of the bands of Gerald Wilson, Dizzy Gillespie, and McCoy Tyner are all about swing. William Henderson a veteran of numerous Pharoah Sanders records heads up Tedesco’s rhythm section. The eight tracks, all Tedesco originals from blues to ballads and smooth bop, are winners. Tedesco eschews flash for style. A true jazz style.
