If I were stranded on a Desert Island with Gretchen I would need...
- Kenny Burrell With John Coltrane (New Jazz-1958)
Two of my favorites together. A synergistic effect.
- Miles Davis --- Kind of Blue (Columbia-1959)
A classic. What more can I say?
- McCoy Tyner --- The Real McCoy (Blue Note-1967)
Tyner backed up by Joe Henderson, Ron Carter, and Elvin Jones.
- Herbie Hancock --- Empyrean Isles (Blue Note-1964)
Herbie plays with Freddie Hubbard, Ron Carter, and Anthony Williams.
"Cantaloupe Island" is one of my favorites.
- Jimmy Smith --- Back at the Chicken Shack (Blue Note-1960)
The master of the jazz organ with Stanley Turrentine, Kenny Burrell, and
Donald Bailey. There is only one Jimmy Smith.
- Charlie Parker --- Yardbird Suite:The Ultimate Charlie Parker Collection
(Rhino-1997)
A highly recommended 2 CD compilation of the Bird.
- Wayne Shorter --- Speak No Evil (Blue Note-1965)
A classic album that has inspired many other musicians. Shorter is joined
by Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Elvin Jones. What a
quintet!
- Wayne Shorter --- Adam's Apple (Blue Note-1966)
Another classic from the mid 60's.
- Dexter Gordon --- GO (Blue Note-1962)
Dexter is the man, and I love "Cheese Cake"!
- Wes Montgomery --- The Incredible Jazz Guitar (Riverside-1960)
Wes influenced many guitar players, and understandably so. "West Coast
Blues" is one of my favorites from Wes.
