Figura emergente del piano jazz statunitense, Danny Fox si muove con convincente originalità all'interno di schemi ampiamente praticati nelle musiche improvvisate contemporanee. Il suo trio si destreggia con grande professionalità, evidenziando un interplay ricco di sottigliezze. Lo si evince sia negli spunti di particolare taglio ritmico che nelle raffinate modulazioni solistiche.

La lucida visione compositiva del leader ben si adatta alla logica del trio, con i suoi giochi ad incastro ritmico-armonici. La smagliante tecnica di Fox è ben lungi dal voler dar sfoggio di virtuosismo, per porsi al servizio completo della composizione. Il suo trio mantiene una ragguardevole coerenza di intenti, variando spesso la dinamica del suono. Le trame ritmiche, ricche di sottigliezze, di basso e batteria conferiscono ariosità e senso della misura alla composizioni originali.

Tra queste si impone soprattutto "Sterling," al cui fascino è difficile sottrarsi per il mood sfavillante e la sapienza costruttiva delle frasi. Ma tutto il CD costituisce un esempio di eccellente mainstream contemporaneo. Anche il brano che dà il titolo all'opera dimostra come si possa suonare nello spirito dei tempi presenti nella piena consapevolezza dei modelli pianistici precedenti. Sul piano strettamente pianistico, Fox è sulla buona strada per conseguire una precisa identità interpretativa. Nel suo stile già coesistono armoniosamente slanci melodici e verve ritmica.
