Norma Winstone: Dance without Answer
Terzo album di Norma Winstone con Glauco Venier e Klaus Gesing, versione contemporanea dei lied da camera, dei quali riprende pregi e difetti.

Qui, ancor più che nei precedenti Distance e Stories Yet to Tell, la cantante britannica riprende brani della popular musicdel Novecento—tra gli altri troviamo brani di Madonna, Nick Drake, Tom Waits, Dave Grusin, Joe Raposo, Fred Nail—vi aggiunge composizioni dei due collaboratori e una di Ralph Towner, con testi propri o altrui (particolarente belli quelli in friulano di "Gust Da Essi Viva" di Novella Cantarutti) e reinterpreta il tutto con suo stile efficacie ed espressivo, ma anche un po' monocorde.

Venier e Gesing, avvalendosi anche della loro antica intesa, si integrano ottimaente al contesto, il primo ponendosi prevalentemente al servizio della voce con sensibilità e bel tocco, il secondo aggiungendo con il soprano e il clarone la propria interpretazione delle linee melodiche, con momenti di notevole lirismo e suoni netti e luminosi.

Particolarmente riuscite, oltre la già citata canzone in friulano, le riletture di "Live to Tell" di Madonna e di "San Diego Serenade" di Waits, anche grazie al prezioso lavoro di Gesing al clarone.

Tutto concorre in tal modo alla realizzazione di un lavoro curato, senz'altro godibile e fascinoso, e tuttavia sostanzialmente privo di sorprese e, alla lunga, un po' ripetitivo.
