Teddy Harris has a great jam session on Wednesdays. Weekends look for the
always excellent young trumpeter Dwight Adams, or the veteran Donald Walden.
James Cater recently recorded a live CD with Aretha Franklin at Bakers.

Five minutes from downtown in Historic Eastern Market. Detroit's only late
night jazz club serving up Cajun catfish and red beans and rice all night
long. Artists that have played here include Larry Smith, Robert Penn,
Straight Ahead, and Marcus Belgrave. Straight-ahead jazz Friday and Saturday.
This is where James Carter comes to jam late at night when he's in town.

A real jazz club owned by bassist Ron Brooks (CJQ), specializes in regional
jazz singers like Sunny Wilkinson with his excellent rhythm section. He
brings in names like Mose Allison several times a year and also jazz greats
like Frank Morgan & Lou Donaldson. On Mondays bassist Paul Keller brings in
his wonderful Bird of Paradise Orchestra. Paul is best known for touring and
recording with Diana Krall.

The beautifully remodeled Firefly Club presents quality jazz, blues, big band
and swing acts, seven nights a week, featuring artists on the national and
local scenes. The club boasts a state-of-the-art sound system and a new dance
floor.
The Fire Fly has a well attended Avant Guard series as well as hosting
touring blues acts on Thursdays.

jazz on Friday and Saturday evenings. They also have several gourmet-style
appetizers, desserts, beer and a cigar-friendly atmosphere. Fridays belong to
the great Odessa Harris Group and the Andi Perri Quartet plays on Saturdays.

Jack McDuff. The late pianist Harold McKinny held fort weekly, encouraging a
generation of young Detroiters. Some real jazz has been played here.
