British Invasion bands and artists are those musical acts of the early and mid 1960s who followed The Beatles and crossed the Atlantic and found fans in the United States.

A second wave followed in the late 1960s and continued into the 1970s, typified by a heavier, hard rock sound.

Another British Invasion of sorts happened in the 1980s and into the 1990s and is referred to as Britpop.
