Jazz Rock is still a vibrant force in the musical world and is played by some of the planet's most talented musicians. Having survived for over 30 years without consistent major media support, the genre still attracts fans and musicians interested in instrumental integrity, improvisation, and a powerful groove. If you're not sure what Jazz Rock music is all about, click on the radio station links below (in bold) and give a listen!!!
Jazz Rock has as many definitions and styles as the musicians and fans that play and listen to it. From it's big bang beginning's that featured Miles Davis, Tony William's Lifetime, John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra, Joe Zawinul & Wayne Shorter's Weather Report, Jazz Rock blew out of the gates in the early 70's. The early success of bands like Chick Corea's Return to Forever opened the door for mass appeal and consequently changed the musical landscape to a different standard. Since then, Jazz Rock wandered around the fringes of Jazz and even Smooth Jazz for many years. Recently, however, there is a new generation of fans and musicians that have embraced the spirit of Jazz Rock for it's various creative capabilities. This is a good place to get to know what's going on in the Jazz Rock community. Enjoy - Rick Calic (www.jazzrockworld.com)
