The Northumbrian Smallpipe is one of the more versatile bagpipes, in a musical sense. With its four single-blade reed drones, each with the ability to sound one of two notes; and its double-blade reed keyed chanter that can be closed off (a pipe with rests!); the amount of music that can be correctly played on this instrument is truly amazing for a bagpipe.
