Andrew Cheshire is a creative and expressive musician who has emerged from the New York jazz scene with a highly original voice in both improvisation, and composition, Throughout his career as a jazz guitarist, Andrew has led important groups comprised of many of the best musicians in jazz.
Born in Queens in 1962, Andrew began playing the guitar at age 10. Entirely self-taught, Andrew learned how to swing by attending jam sessions at jazz clubs in and around New York City in the late seventies. Andrew has played with such notables as Kenny Barron, Walter Perkins, Don Friedman, Marvin "Smitty" Smith, and Ron McClure. Andrew's music, a mixture of the traditional and the avante-garde, has been praised by musicians and critics alike, and has been a recent poll winner in Jazziz and Cadence magazines. Rather than the usual comparisons to other prominent jazz guitarists, Andrew's smooth, soulful style has been described as "horn-like" and although obviously rooted in the blues; is quite devoid of the usual guitar cliches.
Today, Andrew lives with his wife Eva, and their two sons, Andrew and Steven, in northeast Pennsylvania. In addition to playing and teaching the guitar, Andrew enjoys painting, writing poetry, and restoring antique radios. He is also the author of the book "A practicle approach to playing the guitar".
