2000 Earshot Jazz Festival
By Jason West
Reporting on jazz is a labor of love, folks. Fortunately, Seattle gives its
jazz musicians lots of love, rain or shine, and I'm going to do my bit to
acknowledge some of the best musicians in the world right here in Sea-town.
So in the future see this space for reviews of live concerts at Seattle's
top jazz clubs like Tula's, Jazz Alley and the recently opened Experience
Music Project Museum. In addition, I will provide AAJ readers with updates
on the latest CD releases from independent Seattle labels. Notes on jazz
education, artist interviews and a list of upcoming jazz events will also be
included in Seattle Sound.
In October and November Seattle jazz was abuzz with the sounds of the 2000 Earshot Jazz Festival. A wide array of performers descended on Sea-town for the festival, including Cecil Taylor, Joanne Brackeen, Uri Caine, Paul Bley, Bill Frisell, the Dave Holland Quintet, Lee Konitz, Reggie Workman, Andrew Cyrille, the Kevin Eubanks Quartet, the Dave Peck Trio and Charles Lloyd, to name just a few.
The Earshot festival is Seattle's most-anticipated jazz event, and this year was no exception. Jazz fans from across the Northwest attended the festival. Here are my reviews of Earshot concerts featuring Clark Terry, Wayne Horvitz and DJ Spooky. These reviews originally appeared on www.jazzsteps.com.
