By Glenn Astarita
The hardcore improv-label SOFA released six powerful CDs during its first year. The musicians presented on the SOFA label are both Norwegian and European improvisers. Some are young, some are established - some are even called the innovators of European improvised music. One thing these musicians have in common is that they all have their own distinctive approach to improvised music. The music on each SOFA release has its own special and personal dynamic sound that represents a new and fresh direction in Norwegian and European improvised music. The SOFA CDs are recordings from both live concerts and studio-sessions.
