Lots of new things sampled in this episode with Chicago culture maker Angel Bat Dawid's Hush Harbor Mixtape: Doxology highlighting the bunch. She does everything on this one which is another chapter in her mission to, as she puts it, "sonically eradicate the white supremacy system." A best-of for 2021 I think. Enterprising young saxophonist Kevin Sun explores Charlie Parker on his 3 Bird, while some duos churn up the mix—Gordon Grdina & Jim Black and Larry Ochs & Donald Robinson. Serbia's eclectic Hashima has a new one out, and there's one from a series of solo piano pieces from various pianists honouring late pianist Diane Moser. Veteran drummer Barry Altschul's 3-Dom Factor are as nasty as usual, and likely a contemporary of Altschul in the old loft scene, bassist Steve Tintweiss, finally lets the light shine on his group The Purple Why's unreleased concert from 1968.
