Album Description

Making a live album is the ultimate goal of many jazz musicians. Capturing a moment that is filled with the audience’s energy puts the record to another spiritual level. Our bassist, Danny Ziemann has always had a passion about recording and engineering and put a lot of effort into choosing the right microphones for us together with our sound engineer Gabor Halász, that also puts in all his knowledge and interest in all of the projects I have ever done. Little Boo is a new composition of Guillem Arnedo, which is dedicated to his first son/child, that was not yet born when this recording took place. This song shows Arnedo’s creative way of connecting melody with harmony. After George Floyd is another dedication, commemoration of the terrible racist event of 2020. Pol Omedes’ emotional bossa-like song starts with Ziemann’s beautiful bass solo. It’s About Time is a composition of the great Ron Carter. Not many people have recorded this rhythmical, riff-like blues. Such songs benefit the most by being recorded live. Who Can I Turn To is gorgeous jazz standard that was recorded by many greats. The band puts this one in ¾ that gives it a lyrical atmosphere. Nobody can argue with the fact that Thad Jones was a genius arranger and trumpeter. If I Love Again is one of his early combo arrangements, which perfectly fits to the quartet’s sound. When You Wish Upon A Star is a piano feature, where I take the Walt Disney song in a very slow tempo. This is one of those melodies that I loved playing on the piano and when I heard Clare Fischer’s harmonization, it became clear to me what to do. The following song is made famous by the great saxophonist, Cannonball Adderley, although Hi-Fly is a composition by Randy Weston. The marching-like melody creates a joyful atmosphere, which is the perfect base for improvisation. Bumpily is a dedication to my lovely girlfriend/partner Anna. It’s always difficult to write something to an important person in your life, but having known that we both love Bill Evans helped to finish this composition. The Shadow Of Your Smile has always been our encore. This arrangement is by the great Eddie Harris. There is nothing greater than a beautiful Johnny Mandell melody with the conga beat.
